How to Fix Apps Keep Crashing on Windows Restarting the Application

I suspect this stems from needing to present the DLL version to the app as unchanged but needing the OS to load the updated version. Presumably, this prevents the application from being repaired by the installer and restoring vulnerable DLLs that might then be loaded by the side-by-side feature that allows multiple versions of shared DLLs to co-exist. It appears that some security updates don't just replace a DLL or search for all instances and replace all of them, these updates seem to aggressively remove and delete not just the DLL(s) being updated, these updates track down the installation packages that supplied them uninstall the installation package and delete it in order to purge the system of the prior (vulnerable) version(s). Some seem to have been partially uninstalled. Some have clearly been un-installed, no desktop icon, no menu items, program folder empty or absent.

#IVOLUME KEEPS CRASHING UPDATE#
Somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of the apps that are broken by a windows update have to be reinstalled. This seems to resolve one of two classes of problems. Choosing "restart" within Windows prevents it from using the memory image file so that it loads executable and more importantly, shared DLLs, one-by-one. Powering down and starting up just reloads the current memory image file. Windows improves its boot time by saving a memory image after it has loaded some (not all that well documented, but large) part of the OS. Restarting the system fixes between 1/3 and 1/2 of the broken apps, but NB: restarting the system is not powering the system down and starting it again. I have not needed to to repair the Windows installation, uninstall updates, or restore the system to an earlier time. My experience has been than 2/3 or more of Windows 10 system updates in 2021 and early 2022 have cause Office and/or other common apps like Acrobat to fail to start.

Now Office 2019 apps keep hanging and crashing. Usually, Office 2019 will be updated automatically, for more information, please refer to: Update Office 2019 (for IT Pros). While I'm on Windows 11 I'm talking to a growing number other people in Windows 10 who have started with what seems to be a similar issue which is being resolved by an online repair of Office 2019, but I'm thinking that asking possibly more and more people to repair office can't be a viable solution?
